What’s the best type of air conditioners for your new home?
We asked experts to offer their top picks, with more on air conditioning and home heating coming soon.
“A new home with an air condition will provide a fresh start and comfort,” says Andrew Mancini, an associate professor of environmental studies at Ohio State University.
“For example, a large, spacious home will offer fresh air, with fresh air from the windows and doors.”
If you’re buying a home with air conditioning for a first-time buyer, you’ll want to be prepared to invest in a new air condition.
You’ll need to choose a home heating system, and your air condition unit should have at least a 75-percent efficiency rating.
“The best air conditioning is a 75 to 80 percent efficiency,” says Mancina.
Air conditioners can work as part of a home’s system, so they should be considered when choosing a new home heating unit.
For example, you may want to look for a home that has a dedicated air condition to cool the room, Mancino says.
An air condition system can be a boon for people who live in cities.
“You’re going to need a larger room to cool your home than in a larger apartment or condo, and you’re going, ‘I want more cooling,’ ” says Mance.
For new homes, a high efficiency air condition can mean savings of $100 or more per month.
Even for people with an older air condition, the savings will come down because they’ll need more space, Mance says.
